Estrela Consulting's methodology centers on three critical pillars when identifying right-fit colleges: academic, social, and financial compatibility. This holistic approach acknowledges that a college can be perfect academically but if the social environment doesn't support the student or the financial burden is too great, it won't ultimately be the right fit. The emphasis on social fit is particularly important given that one-third of college students transfer from their first institution, with the most common reason being social incompatibility rather than academic challenges.
Mental health features prominently in Kristina's work, extending beyond her consulting practice to her involvement with State of Mind Hudson, an initiative born from her Leadership Hudson experience. After visiting various schools and hearing consistently from students about their stress levels and the competitive pressure they face, Kristina and her colleagues committed to addressing mental health in their community. This commitment reflects the concerning reality that many students sacrifice their mental wellbeing in pursuit of academic achievements and prestigious college acceptances.
The standardized testing landscape has shifted dramatically since the COVID-19 pandemic, with many institutions adopting test-optional policies. While some selective schools have reinstated testing requirements, the majority of colleges accept more than half of their applicants, making the admissions process less dependent on test scores than many students and parents believe. Kristina acknowledges the stress these tests cause while providing practical guidance on how to approach them without becoming overwhelmed by the process.
